THe Breakthrough Anniversary

Date: March 31, 2012 Time: 5:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Event Location To commemorate the 147th anniversary of the Petersburg Breakthrough on April 2, 1865, Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier will conduct a pre-dawn tour of the Breakthrough Battlefield, followed by a hot breakfast in the National Museum banquet room and a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new trail. The Jones Farm Loop Trail connects the final Confederate picket line, located on Pamplin Historical Park's property and built on the night of March 25, 1865, with a surviving portion of the original Confederate picket line, captured by the Union VI Corps earlier that day. These unique works preserve the configuration lent them by the Federals as they refaced the captured Confederate line so as to face toward the Southern defenses. The trail is a cooperative project between the Civil War Trust and Pamplin Historical Park.
Reservations and fee required. Time 5:30 a.m. ? 9:00 a.m. (804) 861-2408, Pamplin Historical Park, 6125 Boydton Plank Rd., Petersburg, VA 23803, www.pamplinpark.org.
